The MT8220A UMTS Master is a handheld transmitter analyzer designed for verification of GSM / GPRS / EDGE & W-CDMA / HSDPA Node B equipment during network installation, deployment and maintenance. The MT8220A combines the functionality of a transmitter analyzer and the MS2721A 7.1GHz handheld spectrum analyzer into one ultra-lightweight (2,9kg only), battery-operated (Li-Ion type) unit.

The built-in spectrum analyzer features a continuous frequency range of 100 kHz to 7.1 GHz. Offering a lab-type Average Noise Level of -153dBm @ 1GHz and a Resolution Bandwidth down to 10Hz, the MT8220A is capable to measure low level signals easily.

The UMTS Masters measurement capabilities include RF measurements and demodulation of GSM/GPRS/EDGE & W-CDMA/HSDPA signals by directly connecting to the Node B or over the air (OTA).

A built-in GPS receiver provides location as well as timing information. Furthermore the GPS option enhances the internal reference oscillator accuracy to +/-25ppb (parts per billion), which is especially useful when the MT8220A is used in the over-the-air mode, where no external reference clock is available from the base station.
Dedicated one-button measurement functions (like Field Strength, Channel Power, Occupied Bandwidth, Adjacent Channel Power Ratio, Carrier to Interference, AM/FM/SSB Demodulation) as well as built-in frequency allocation tables support easy and straight forward operation.
A comprehensive data management and analysis software suite (“Handheld Software Tools”) comes with every UMTS Master unit providing users with a simple and easy method of managing, archiving, and analyzing system performance over time. The MT8220A is equipped with an 8,4 inch color display, which is optimized for indoor and outdoor usage under all lighting and weather conditions, and offers a true SVGA resolution. The use of external Compact Flash memory modules allows expanding the internal storage capacity of the MT8220A to an unlimited number of traces and setups. Ethernet 10/100 Base-T and USB 2.0 connections are provided to give the user flexibility in remotely controlling the instrument as well as in uploading and downloading traces and settings.
